On June 12, a protest demonstration devoted to the World Environment Day and Day of Combating against Desertification and Droughts was organized by "Regional Development Center/Transparency International in Armenia", ""Burg" Youth Environmental Center", "Bird-lovers Center" NGOs and Armenian Botanic Association.
The participants of the demonstrations protested against the destruction and allocation of parks for construction purposes in Yerevan.
The demonstration started at the "Azatutyan" Square and proceeded along Sayat-Nova and Abovyan streets towards the Republic Square. The participants of the demonstration were wearing T-shirts with "We Want Our City Back" logos and green armbands.
The participants were calling for restoration of the welfare of the city by stopping the cutting of trees and the destruction of the parks which in the end can result in the desertification of the city. The participants were carrying posters saying "Who is the chief architect of this desert?", "People are equal in front of the law" etc. At the end of the demonstration the posters were set up in front of the government building. During the demonstration the participants were calling "Green Yerevan", "We Want Our City Back" and other slogans.
